Tech Transfer Success by the Numbers

October 4, 2017 | blog

The large university research and commercialization base of the southeastern United States will be on hand and open for business at the upcoming 19th annual Southeast Bio Investor & Partnering Forum November 14-16 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

At this moment, the offices attending represent nearly $5.5 billion of research from public and private sources annually. In the most recent reporting, they issued 923 licenses and options. The technologies from these universities obviously have staying power as there are 5,802 past deals still active and ongoing. These research institutions are committed to being a good partner and made a net investment of over $12 million in patent protection.

For any entrepreneur who is looking to start their next venture, this is certainly the most abundant single meeting to shop for the next big technology breakthrough upon which to found a promising new enterprise. Between them, these tech transfer offices have helped create over 500 new startups and, last year alone, their technologies resulted in 105 new products into the market.
